FAQ

What is a learning content management system (LCMS)?

An LCMS is software for managing learning content across an organization's various training development areas. It provides developers, authors, instructional designers, and subject matter experts the means to create and reuse e-learning content, essentially reducing duplicated development efforts.

In the iQpakk multi-user environment, generators may author, import, store and reuse (in whole or in part) digital content and media assets known as learning objects. From a central object repository, managers have tools to oversee and deliver instructor-led synchronous and asynchronous online training based on learning object methodology.  Learners can access the material via mobile device - online or off.

What is the difference between a standard learning content management system and learning management system (LMS)?

The LMS is limited in that it cannot create courses, manipulate courses and cannot reuse the content of one course to build another.  LCMS solutions are ideally suited to create content-centric learning strategies, supporting multiple methods for gathering and organizing content, leveraging content for multiple purposes, and operation for mission critical purposes.

The LCMS can author, manage and deliver training modules; the ability to edit and repurpose the individual pieces that make up a catalog of training (forming mutated learning objects) is the primary advancement between the LMS and LCMS. The LMS is more learner-centric, whereas the LCMS is more content-centric with an emphasis on authoring and management of reusable content.

What business problems does LCMS solve?

Centralized management of an organization's learning content for efficient searching and retrieval, productivity gains around rapid and condensed development timelines, assembly, maintenance and publishing / branding / delivery of learning content.
